🌯🏡🎉 Weekend Wrapped Up: Burritos, Homes & Happenings in Winchester 🌤️✨

Winchester Wire #030: Paco's Market, homes of the week, events and happenings and more.

Hey Winstigators,

A good friend of mine came up for a visit on Saturday morning, hungover after too much partying on Halloween. He called me on his drive in, wanting to know where he could get a good breakfast burrito in Winchester. One might argue that a breakfast burrito is one of the most perfect hangover foods ever devised.

One place immediately came to mind, I’d been there for breakfast a number of times most notably after training sessions for a marathon I ran a couple years ago.

“Yeah, just meet me at the house and we’ll go,” I told him as this place wasn’t on his way into town.

Head north on Martinsburg Pike and right before you get to the exit for 81, on the right you’ll see an Exxon gas station. If you’re not looking for it, you’ll miss the sign on the front of the convenience store for Paco’s Market. It’s inside the convenience store that you’ll find some of the best breakfast burritos and some of the best Mexican food in Winchester.

We walked in and ordered breakfast burritos and you can get them in all sorts of different ways; with or without potatoes, eggs, cheese, chorizo, steak, etc. The options are limitless. We ordered a bunch of burritos (as a heads up, they’re kind of small so if you’re bringing a big appetite, you might want more than one) and waited for them to come out to take back to the house.

But as we were waiting, my friend spied some tamales that were waiting in a hot case to the left of the register and being the foody he is, he couldn’t resist. Before I knew it, we had tamales in front of us while we were waiting for the burritos and they were fantastic. Made with fresh masa, they were light and fluffy with slow cooked chicken and green chiles and they were wrapped in corn husks that kept them moist. It’s not a flavor punch; they’re more about understated flavor and the textures and they were a great appetizer.

Excellent tamales.

We didn’t have to wait long for the burritos, but before we left…did I grab a couple glass bottle Cokes from the fridge? And did I also grab a pack of their freshly made and still warm corn tortillas to make some tacos later? You bet!

The burritos were perfect. As I mentioned, they’re on the smaller side but they’re tightly wrapped in fresh tortillas and generously filled. Contrary to the excellent tamales that we had earlier, these were the flavor bombs that we were originally looking for. Paired with the fresh red and green salsas, they were perfect.

Stuffed breakfast burrito.

If you’re looking for great breakfast burritos or authentic Mexican food in general, give Paco’s Market a try. They also have another location in Stephens City, also located in a gas station. But don’t let the environment keep you from giving it a chance, the food is fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced, proving that some of the best food can come some the most unexpected places.
