🚗🍔 Matchbox Magic at Snow White + Weekend in Winchester
Winchester Wire #034: Matchbox cars at Snow White Grill, homes of the week, events and happenings and more.

Happy Wednesday, Winstigators!
On Sunday morning shortly before 11 am, I was walking downtown with my wife and son and trying to figure out whether we were in a coffee mood or a beer mood when we bumped into a family friend who was in a big hurry. He was beelining to the Snow White Grill and had to get there when it opened.
Now, I like a Snow White burger as much as anyone, but this had me curious. But when he explained why he had to be there, it made perfect sense.
When I was a kid and my mom would drag me along on shopping trips, she’d bribe me make it worth my while by purchasing a Matchbox car for me. They only cost a buck, I was entertained and she was able to get her errands done in peace; a win for everyone involved. A few summers ago when my parents were cleaning out their house and downsizing, she came across my old collection of cars and gave them to my son. I may or may have not rescued a couple of my old favorites and put them on my nightstand.
And now my son likes Matchbox cars; he plays with my old ones and sometimes when we’re at the grocery store, I’ll get him a new one. They’re still a buck and still magic for a kid.
Anyway, our family friend explained that Snow White Grill had their own limited supply of Matchbox cars and he had to get one. Suddenly the question of “coffee or beer” was ambushed by Snow White sliders, fries and a Matchbox car.
We placed our orders and each asked for a car; mini, die-cast replicas of a 1939 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Moments later, a little old lady came in and took a seat at the far end of the counter and asked for a Matchbox car, too. According to Danny Turner, the owner of Snow White Grill, they’d been selling like hotcakes ever since they announced them on Facebook a few days prior. Danny explained that the former SWG owner had found a box of them upstairs in the adjoining building where various SWG memorabilia had been stored. These SWG cars were made in 2000 for the holiday season and were limited to 1,000 made. Why they never got released back then is a mystery, but they’re here now.
They’re selling for $15 each right now, so if you want a great stocking stuffer for a kid (or a kid at heart!) who loves Snow White Grill and Matchbox cars, head on down to SWG to grab one. And treat yourself to some sliders while you’re at it!
