Winstigators,
A couple weeks ago, I realized one of the headlights on my truck was out. “No problem,” I told myself. “I can fix that,” with my confidence coming from a quick YouTube search. I also figured it’d be a good opportunity to show my son how to handle things yourself.
Then the weekend happened. Plans shifted, time disappeared, and the headlight didn’t get replaced. The lesson I promised to teach my son hadn’t been learned but it’s been added to the list of lessons still pending.
Funny enough, I got an automated text from Auto Impressions just checking in. It said they hadn’t seen me in a while and asked if I needed anything. I replied, “Yeah, I need a headlight replaced,” and within minutes I had an appointment locked in for a couple days later.
If you’ve spent any time on the Winchester subreddit, you’ve seen the question pop up: “Anyone know a good mechanic?” There’s a reason Auto Impressions has a 4.9/5 rating on Google. They do great work, charge fair prices, and Karen (who runs the place) is an absolute gem. I’ve been going there for years with different vehicles and it’s always been a great experience.
Did I take the easy way out this time? Definitely. Next time, I’ll give it a shot myself and make good on that “teach your kid how to fix things” promise. And if he and I can’t figure it out, I know exactly where to take it.
Record Store Day!
I’ve got it mentioned in the events section below, but this Saturday is Record Store Day!
If you’re not familiar, RSD is a spring tradition where independently owned record stores get a shipment of limited-edition and exclusive releases. If you’re a crate digger like me or just someone with a slowly growing vinyl collection, it’s one of the best chances all year to grab something unique.
Here in Winchester, participating shops include Back to the Media, Hopscotch Coffee and Records and Earfood.
If you won’t be in Winchester for RSD, you can find a participating shop near you using the official Record Store Day website.
One quick heads up: not every store gets every release. If there’s something specific you’ve got your eye on, it’s worth calling your shop ahead of time to see if they’ll have it in stock.
